There’s something incredibly special about Middleton Lodge. Nestled in the heart of the North Yorkshire countryside, this privately-owned estate is one of my absolute favourite wedding venues to photograph. From the moment you drive through the tree-lined entrance and catch sight of the Georgian country house, you know you’re in for a truly unforgettable day.
As an experienced wedding photographer, I’m always drawn to venues that offer variety, elegance, and beautiful light and Middleton Lodge delivers on all these fronts. Whether you’re tying the knot in The Main House, hosting a reception in The Fig House, dining at Forge, or enjoying the tranquil surroundings of the Walled Garden, every corner of this estate is picture-perfect.
Why I Love Photographing Weddings at Middleton Lodge
Middleton Lodge has a rare charm that makes it feel both grand and intimate. I love how the spaces flow from one to the next, meaning guests can sip champagne in the gardens before dining under soft fairy lights in the Fig House, all while surrounded by lush greenery and warm stone buildings.
For me, it’s all about capturing the story of your wedding day as it naturally unfolds. I specialise in timeless, light-filled photography that focuses on real moments and genuine emotion. Middleton Lodge’s stunning natural backdrops and soft neutral tones allow me to create elegant images that truly reflect the atmosphere of your celebration.
Photography Opportunities at Every Turn
The estate offers endless opportunities for breathtaking photographs; from romantic golden hour portraits in the wildflower meadows to quiet moments under the archways of the Walled Garden. I also adore capturing the smaller details: the rustic textures of the buildings, the candlelit dinners, and those spontaneous, joyful glances that make a wedding so personal.
Whether you’re planning a summer garden party or a cosy winter gathering, I’ll tailor my approach to reflect the mood and light of your day. No two weddings are the same, and that’s what makes this place so inspiring to work in time and time again.
My Approach on Your Wedding Day
On the day itself, I’ll blend in seamlessly with your guests; offering a calming presence and capturing candid, heartfelt images as the day unfolds. I’ll guide you gently during your couple portraits to ensure you feel relaxed and confident, but most of all, I want your wedding gallery to feel like you: Natural, joyful, and true to the love you share.
As someone who’s had the pleasure of photographing many weddings at Middleton Lodge, I also know the best spots for soft lighting, how to make the most of the gardens, and when to sneak away for those magical, quiet portraits just before sunset.
The Forge Experience
In addition to the main Middleton Lodge venue, I also enjoy photographing weddings at their utterly beautiful Forge farmhouse.
This intimate location is perfect for small wedding groups that want to celebrate in a breathtaking and cosy environment whilst enjoying a delicious menu created by Michelin award-winning head chef Jake Jones.
I am particularly fond of the soft lighting, the harmonious blend of nature and rustic charm and the shimmer of the pool as you celebrate that makes your photographs glow with a distinct summertime joy.
